Receiving Error Message: “Error Reading Disk In Drive A: Please Insert ‘Disklabel’ With Serial Number ‘Serialnumber’ In Drive A:” When Using MS Excel XP

  1. When a file from a floppy disk is opened, the serial number of the floppy disk is read into memory. Saving an open file to a floppy disk that has a different serial number than the floppy disk it was opened from, may cause this error message. To avoid this, copy the files to the hard disk before opening them.
  2. To save a file to a floppy disk, use the Save As option on the File menu instead of the Save option.
