In general, there will always be people why modify software with wrong intent, embedding malware or trojans. The best thing to prevent downloading and installing these modified version is to download only from trusted resources, preferably from the software vendor&#039;s website. Do not get them from torrents or file sharing websites.
You can also check for a digital signature on the downloaded .EXE files. Right-click the file and select properties. You should be able to see a tab called &quot;Digital Signatures&quot;. If that has the vendor&#039;s name in it, you can be certain the file has not been modified.
Registry programs are targeted a lot because they are a popular software category.
